Highlight of Esther’s Contributions on the Committee So far
In 2018, Esther was meritoriously nominated to serve on the CEDAW Committee to fill up the void occasioned by the demise of Nigeria’s representative and based on consultations with state and non-state actors and donor support, she set up the CEDAW Hub as a virtual support tool to enhance understanding of CEDAW among stakeholders, with over 100 grassroots women’s organizations trained and accessing to date

Esther facilitated Nigeria’s positioning as the Chair, Committee Task Team for the CEDAW at 40 and beyond Anniversary event and successfully coordinated the High-Level Panel Anniversary event held on 18th December, 2019 at the UN HQ in New York, which has crystalized into a global drive to promote accountability and budget efficiency through CEDAW Coalitions aimed at “building synergies between and among current multi-sectoral, multi-lateral, multi-national and multi-stakeholder efforts for impactful mainstreaming of gender and advancement of women”. In the spirit of the Beijing +25 Generation Equality objectives and the SDGs, capacity strengthening efforts will be targeted at youths especially young women in six identified priority areas.
Serves on Working Groups
Serves on several CEDAW Committee Working Groups including the CEDAW/UN Women SDG; CEDAW/IPU; CEDAW Trafficking in Persons and Migration etc. to enhance implementation of CEDAW Articles and its jurisprudence.
Helped to establish partnership between the Committee and the World Trade Organization, ITC She-Trades and the UN Global Compact to deepen linkages for achieving substantive equality in the context of CEDAW through implementation of the SDGs and the Buenos Aires Declaration on Trade and Women’s Empowerment, promote gender friendly cyber technologies and facilitate bridging of the gender digital divide.
